Rhinoplasty – a nose job
A nose job or rhinoplasty is a procedure that has been around for a long time. At first, this might seem like a procedure which is less complicated than many of the others we do but if you ask any experienced surgeon they will describe it as one of the most demanding cosmetic surgery operations. They will tell you how It requires experience and judgement, with little scope for error. From the start the initial consultation with the surgeons in the clinic network will be thorough and understanding of your wishes and expectations, technical possibilities and underlying anatomy is required. Our highly experienced team are here to help you through this whole journey. The nose is probably the most prominent features of our face which tends to have a disproportionate influence on how we, or indeed others perceive us.
There are many different reasons you might consider rhinoplasty (nose job): It could be purely cosmetic as you might not like the size or shape of your nose, or it might be medical after an accident, your nose might be broken or crooked. Alternatively, you may have a nasal blockage. Rhinoplasty is considered as reconstructive surgery if there are medical reasons for the procedure.
Rhinoplasty – what happens before, during and after?
A rhinoplasty, is usually performed under a general anaesthetic. The length of the procedure is purely dependent on which technique or techniques will be used. Such techniques can include refining the tip of your nose by removing some of the cartilage or having your nose shaved down. Your nose can also be straightened by breaking your nose or the surgeon might actually have to rebuild at least part of your nose. After the operation, most patients will spend one or two nights in the hospital. You may have a splint held over your nose and your nose may be packed. If your nose is packed, you will need to breathe through your mouth until the packing is removed the morning after your surgery, so do not be alarmed by this. You will be given pain relief medication.
