A rhytidectomy or to give it it’s more common name a facelift is an operation that helps lift and tighten the skin and the soft tissues of the face and neck. Most patients after a facelift will see results giving them a smoother and tighter look and more youthful appearance. Our consultation clinics in the UK have helped many people over the years achieve the look and feel they desire. Our after-care is second to none and all of our staff are caring and considered experienced in everything that they do.
Facelift – What happens during an operation?
Most of the facelift procedures we carry out are performed under general anaesthetic. It is not unusual for the operation to take two to three hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure. There are several surgical techniques that can be used depending on what areas of the face and neck that are being lifted. Some of the most popular are the SMAS facelift, the MACS facelift and the mid-facelift or even the minim facelift. With all operations, it will be necessary for the surgeon to make small cuts in certain areas which inevitably will leave scars although these scars will be in places that are hidden.
During the recovery period, your face will feel tender and tight around the ears. Our after-care team will make sure that there should be no severe pain and any pain will be controlled with simple analgesia. You are very likely to stay at least one night in the hospital. Once we are happy that you can go home, you may still experience swelling and bruising and tightness when you open your mouth. It is a good idea to sleep upright for the first few days at least to keep any swelling under control. Any stitches should be able to be removed after 10 to 14 days. After around 4 weeks you should be back to your normal self although the full effect of the operation will not be visible for at least 6 to 9 months after the facelift operation.
