Eyelid surgery – what’s involved?
Eyelid surgery or eyelid reshaping (blepharoplasty) is carried out as it helps to counteract eye bags and wrinkles around the eyes, giving the patient a more youthful look, the procedure will remove skin and tissue from the eyelids. It is not unusual for both upper and lower eyelids to be done at the same time. The operation itself can be carried out with either general or local anaesthetic which would normally mean that the patient can go home the same day, although if both the upper and lower eyelids have been operated on, it is recommended the patient stays in overnight where you will be made very comfortable while you recover from the operation.
The surgeon will need to make a few incisions however scarring is minimal and remains hidden. Normal activity can be resumed quite quickly although we would suggest that you allow ten to fourteen days before returning to work.
